Nuclear Medicine
Currently, PCI has over 35 facilities enrolled in
our Quarterly Nuclear Medicine Program. The
Quarterly site visits ensure facilities comply with
State and Federal Regulations as well as commitments
contained in the radioactive materials license.
Listed are some of the areas that are examined
during the audit:
- Inspect facility for compliance with State
Regs, JCAHO recommendations, etc.
- Environmental radiation survey.
- Review of procedures for therapeutic use of
radioactive materials.
- Review personnel monitoring records for
compliance with ALARA program
- Semi-annual sealed source wipe test.
- Analysis of quarterly linearity test data.
- Annual dose calibrator accuracy check using
facilities sources.
- Annual ALARA inspection.
- Preparation and Continuous update of
Radiation Safety Officer's Notebook.
- Calculation of Typical Patient Doses for
JCAHO
We also provide radiation safety in-service to
occasionally exposed personnel on a periodic basis
covering Radiation Safety, Low-level Effects of
Radiation, and Radiation and Pregnancy.
During the Quarterly Site Visit, a verbal review
of all findings is presented to the nuclear medicine
technologist. Shortly thereafter, a comprehensive
written report with findings and recommendations is
provided to the client.
In addition to the survey, the physicist will
organize, attend and provide input for your
Radiation Safety Committee meetings at the time of
his or her visit.
We will handle the preparation of any radioactive
license renewal and amendments and answer any
questions or correspondence with the State Division
of Radiation Control.
